Brought to you by Hamilton’s BIAs
A BIA is a commercial district in a city bound by geographic borders that is designated through a municipal bylaw and governed by the Ontario Municipal Act. Property and business owners have the opportunity to sit on a board of management where important decisions are made on the maintenance, promotion and improvement of the area as a whole. BIA’s help to support businesses to succeed and they work as a liaison between the city, police services and other important community minded organizations. While a BIA arises from the retail and professional activities of a main street, it has a profound effect on the surrounding area. It serves as an economic and social anchor, helping to stabilize and revitalize the local community.
What is HABIA?
HABIA is a group of dedicated volunteers and staff who each represent one of the thirteen BIA’s in Hamilton. We meet monthly as a group to work on common needs, programs and promotions affecting our areas. We work cooperatively through a public/private partnership with the city and Councillors where city staff can disseminate information and continue to educate us on different programs, changes and current issues that may affect our areas. It is also an opportunity for us to share and get feedback on current happenings within our BIA's.
